VMware

VMware Installation

Today I have successfully installed VMware ESX Server 3.0.1 on a Sun V20z (AMD Chip). What a really simple and intuitive piece of software to install. The installation process takes approx 3/4hr which is brilliant.

All you need to do is insert the CD, Power on the server and wait for instructions. The installer fires up a GUI and configures your screen, keyboard and mouse, and from then on in, it's point and click city....

All you really need to know is the basics of disk formatting, add an IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS Server information.

Once you have then configured your timezone and Language, the installation process goes away and does the rest.

Once completed the installer then reboots the server and when it comes up you are ready to go.

Point your browser at the IP address and you are into the Console, where you can then create your Virtual Machines.

Simple and Brilliant.....
